How to use this fat intake calculator
This number describes total fat, not the quality of the foods providing it. Use the food database to compare portions and check the type of fat in your diet. A single target cannot assess the nutritional quality of a meal.
Formula and assumptions
Fat g = daily kcal × fat percentage ÷ 100 ÷ 9. General adult reference range: 20–35% of energy.
Example calculation
At 2,000 kcal/day and 30% fat, the target is about 67 g/day. The adult reference interval is about 44–78 g/day.
Frequently asked questions
Does this calculate saturated fat?
No. It calculates total fat; individual fat types require separate assessment.
Why divide by nine?
Fat conventionally supplies about 9 kcal per gram in basic energy calculations.
